spotlight: unit m startup weekend
We partnered with Unit M at the University of Manchester to run a startup weekend designed for technical women exploring entrepreneurship.
The focus was on:
- Practical company-building skills
- Team formation and collaboration
- Exposure to founders and operators
The event supported students and early-career researchers in seeing entrepreneurship as a realistic and accessible path.
Thank you so much for organising this! I've left with such a desire to actually take action on ideas I have after seeing how much I could do in just a day! We were staying up late, waking up at 5, working non stop but it didn't feel like work at all. Also was amazing to meet so many cool women!!
I think the presentations were SO SO helpful because they really gave us a foundation of the basics from scratch. I think I left with a much more informed and confident mindset. I think even if business basics are available on the internet, the whole investor/vc angle is near impossible for newcomers to find. Really really loved that!
Seeing how quickly we can create an idea from nothing in such a short amount of time and building something with my teammate and feeling passionate about it and learning as we went.
